The Little Sleigh That Could~

A customer brought in a very old and well used sleigh to our shop one day asking if we could do “anything” to bring it back to its beauty.

Back in the 19th century, both push and pull child sleighs were produced. They were fashioned with the bentwood style of rocking chairs. Many had velvet upholstery as seen in our sled.

It gained my curiosity and I could not say no. I spent a little time researching vintage child sleighs and came across a company named Paris Manufacturing Company which was located in Paris, Maine and founded in 1861. And while I am not sure of the manufacturer of this sleigh, having been raised in Maine only drew me closer to wanting to restore this sleigh for our client.
